If I had an unlimited budget, and I had to get a small hatchback, I’d go for a nicely specced Mini. Much like this one, in fact.
It’s everything I like. BRG, small, efficient, and quick, while still being comfortable. Also, dat noise.
It’s like an F-Type that hasn’t hit puberty!

What’s the max height to be comfortable in one? I’ve always liked them but I’m 6' 1" so I don’t expect I would fit very well.

I’d buy either a BRG John Cooper Works Mini, or a Stealth Gray Focus RS.

These are great cars, if you can deal with BMW design bullshit. I like mine, I don’t love it.

I’m 6'0 and have sat in many mini’s at the autoshow over the years and I’m always surprised that I have several inches of headroom! I’ve sat in cars twice as big that feel less spacious.

I’m 6'1 and fit fine. Front seats are plenty roomy.

I really like them. A friend recently got a Mini and I really want to drive it.

Cooper Works? R32? GTI? Focus ST/RS, Fiat 500 Abarth? I’d have a lot of test driving to do.

They are so damn expensive though. Especially when it comes down to driving experience, it can’t beat much cheaper cars.

I’d probably own a Mini right now if not for the suspect reliability (according to the interwebs). Car and Driver didn’t have much nice to say about them in a recent issue. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2014-m…

I have a friend who is 6' 7" and he fit comfortably in the r53 and r56. I’m sure he fits the newer ones too.

Regrettably, they have BMW build quality. If you like spending money, try maintaining one.

I wish Toyota had saved Mini instead of BMW.

I’d probably get a loaded 2016 Fiat 500 Abarth instead of the Mini. More widespread servicing in Canada, plus the sound is better. The Mini has those artificial pops and bangs which don’t quite suit the general exhaust note, whereas the 500 Abarth sounds raw, guttural, and unmistakably Italian.

It is tough choosing between the two. The Fiat has the better exhaust note, and engine, but the Mini is more comfortable and luxurious.

Minis are fun if budget is no object. But if i am looking for an econohatch I would own an 89-91 civic si with 5sp. I had one as my first car and the amounts of neglect and abuse it gleefully tolerated were stupendous.
Plus 10w30 for the engine and the transmission. Two plugs, one jug of oil and a filter and you’re done. God i miss that car.

If I had an unlimited budget, I’d probably get an S550 because I’m literally a 904 year old man in a 21 year old’s body. Loud noises and hard to digest food make me cranky.
But with all the options on the Mini website, when you finally build one that’s perfect to your liking (for me it was like a $52,000 JCW Clubman like 3 years ago) it feels gooooooooooood.

I feel that the Abarth has a better shifter, looks better, and has more character, though. Plus, they’ve added a touchscreen for 2016, and have fixed the seating position so that it’s upright, but doesn’t give off an unstable feeling. Plus, you can now get the optional 17" forged wheels with summer tires in Bronze, which looks fantastic on a small, red Italian hatchback.

I’m just saying for a small hatchback. If I had an unlimited budget for any car, I’d probably get something like a Phantom or a Lagonda.

Imagine one in red with the bronze 17" forged wheels, red leather interior, and a tricolore stripe. I’m in love just thinking about it.

Between a mini and a 500 i would take mini and make somebody else do all services. They look and drive nice but i lack 17 fingers (some very thin and flexible with a hook like nail) and a second and third elbow which seem to be somewhat needed unless you want to remove a lot of stuff to work on what you really want to fix.

At 6'1" you should fit in everything that isn’t a coupe version of a Kei car. I’m taller than you, and I can’t think of a single car I didn’t fit comfortably in the drivers seat. This is excluding the effects of crappy seats. I fit comfortably in a 1970 Fiat 500.

I agree. So much customization, good looks and comfort, and the fact that it's essentially a BMW means a great warranty (if they use the same one as BMW).
